🚀 We’re happy to share the largest update to our climate data repository so far.
🔹 What’s new?
1️⃣ Finer spatial detail: New daily, monthly, and yearly data at GADM2 resolution. We hope this unprecedented spatial and temporal scale will foster research on the local impacts of climate change.
2️⃣ Better coverage for Europe: New datasets for European countries aggregated at NUTS0, NUTS1, NUTS2, and NUTS3 levels.
3️⃣ Extended time coverage: ERA5 data (daily, monthly, yearly) now updated to include 2024.
🌍 About the Weighted Climate Dataset
Our dashboard lets you explore and download climate data weighted by economic activity, at national and subnational scales. You can:
* Choose climate variables (min/avg/max temperature, precipitation, instantaneous wind gust, SPEI) across multiple time resolutions.
* Select data sources (CRU TS, Delaware, ERA5, CSIC).
* Work at different geographical resolutions (GADM World/0/1/2 and NUTS0–3).
* Weight climate data by population, night lights, cropland, or population counts – or use no weights at all.
* Apply thresholds to focus on extreme events only.
The project is run within the Institute of Economics and L’EMbeDS at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna by Giorgio Fagiolo, Marco Gortan, Francesco Lamperti, and Lorenzo Testa.
